Progress in Soil Aggregates Physical Conservation Mechanism for Organic Carbon

  • The increase in soil organic carbon plays an important role in restoring degraded soil, reducing soil CO2 emission, and enhancing soil fertility and productivity.Physical protection of soil carbon sequestration by soil aggregates is one of the most important mechanisms for conserving soil organic carbon. This paper summarizes the research progress about physical protection mechanism of carbon sequestration by soil aggregates from the followingthree aspects:① the model of soil aggregates formation; ② the physical protection of organic carbon in soil aggregates; ③ the influence between physical properties within aggregates and organic carbon sequestration. The future research directions are proposed as well.
