Abstract
The chlorophyll and soluble protein contents in maize leaves from emergence to senescence grown under the wide/narrow rows and the conventional uniform ridge were investigated. The cropping patterns with wide and narrow rows can promote the extension of the basal leaves, and delay the senescence process. With the increase in spacing, the chlorophyll a+b and chlorophyll contents in different leaves increased. The chlorophyll b content in the basal and lower leaves also increased simultaneously.Significant differences in soluble protein content of maize leaves were observed among treatments, which further provide evidence to the delay of leaf senescence by wide spacing.
